The Guardian

The Guardian is a proposal for the LAFD Station 23 that emphasizes on both structural and environmental systems. The Guardian prioritizes its impact on the community by serving as a fire station as well as a safe haven incase of a natural disaster, and a continuation to the park it is connected to. The fire station takes it shape by the various sun paths to maximize sunlight usage with the incorporation of ETFE skylights and large glass panels all around the exterior. The Guardian also has a large green roof that maximizes the natural land by blending in the architecture amongst the landscape while maintaining 80% of the site’s natural trees. With the rooftop garden in place it allows to cool the fire station efficiently while also collecting the rainwater to cycle for further irrigation. This station aims to invoke multi-use building with sustainable design practices for the community.
