STUDIO 2A

Instructor: Duane MCLEMORE / FALL 2017 / WOODBURY UNIVERSITY

An in-depth analytical study is made of everyday domestic, work, and recreational rituals through written research and case study, with an emphasis on spatial accommodation of program through materiality, finish, structure, and form. Projects set in limited contexts emphasize the influence of internally driven relationships, with a special focus on hybrid programming.

Aquatic Center

This phase will require students to create an aquatic center with the geometry derived from their initial case study. This proposal uses rotational symmetry for thee spatial organization of the program. The rotation of spaces are all from one center as occurred in the Assunta. They both rotate with the center of the hexagonal structure, but the spaces are always rotating around an offset of the center located at the intersection of the arches and dome.

Santa maria dell’ASSUNTA Case Study

This phase will require students to create a formal analysis of baroque styled churches. The Assunta is composed of a hexagonal shape with curved outer surfaces, rectilinear properties, and a semi circle to create curvilinear structure from a planar base
